Northwest Kidney Centers Launches Redesigned Website with New Tools for People with Chronic Kidney Disease

SEATTLE, Jan. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Northwest Kidney Centers, the world's first out-of-hospital dialysis provider, has launched a redesigned website with interactive tools and information to help people live long, full lives with kidney disease.

Based on user research, the site was designed with features that kidney patients requested:

  • Basic information for people wondering how to handle a new diagnosis of chronic kidney disease, including a directory of local physicians who specialize in kidney treatment.
  • Tasty, healthy recipes, sortable by nutrient and ingredients. Nutrition requirements are different depending on a person's stage of kidney disease and type of treatment, so the nutrition information helps people find menus that will work for them.
  • A list of free classes with links to find the nearest time and place. Northwest Kidney Centers provides free education to people at each stage of kidney disease to help them understand their choices about treatment and lifestyle.
  • Easy access for patients to order prescription refills from Northwest Kidney Centers' renal pharmacy and for home dialysis patients to log self-treatments.
  • News about studies at Northwest Kidney Centers' partner organization, the Kidney Research Institute in Seattle, and how to get involved.
  • Ways to support Northwest Kidney Centers' mission as a prospective staff member, volunteer or donor.

The site works on a cell phone or tablet as well as on a desktop computer. A user can share the site's content with others via handy social media links.

"Lifestyle changes, diet and exercise can play a big role in slowing down kidney disease," said Northwest Kidney Centers president and CEO, Joyce F. Jackson. "People who are diagnosed early and take care of themselves may never have to face kidney failure or consider dialysis or a transplant. We hope the website will help."

Northwest Kidney Centers is a regional, not-for-profit, community-based provider of kidney dialysis, public health education, and research into the causes and treatments of chronic kidney disease. Nephrology News & Issues magazine ranks it as the 10th largest dialysis provider in the United States. Founded in Seattle in 1962, it was the world's first dialysis organization. It remains a model in the field because of its high quality services, community connections and generous donor support.
