November Conference Helps Kindergarten Teachers Meet Michigan Standards

EAST LANSING, Mich. and PETERBOROUGH, N.H., Oct. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Teachers across the state of Michigan share common goals—and common struggles—as they work to create extraordinary classrooms, improve core skills, and address the standards. Now, there is a single-focus conference that directly addresses kindergarten teachers and the issues they face. The 2016 Conference for Michigan Kindergarten Teachers will be held November 14-15, 2016, in East Lansing, MI.

The all-new conference delivers 32 sessions and hundreds of strategies teachers can use to reshape their classrooms—not just in theory, but in practice—according to Michigan's Guiding Principles and Strategic Goals. The program will cover topics Michigan kindergarten teachers are asking for, including differentiated instruction, math, writing, reading, technology, at-risk students, and children of poverty. Other themes to be addressed include doing what is best for the children and their learning and creating a can-do culture that provides hope and knowledge for a successful future.

"There will be plenty for teachers, both new and seasoned, to sink their teeth into. The key tools Michigan kindergarten teachers need to succeed have been consolidated into two jam-packed days of intensive learning. Kindergarten teachers would be hard-pressed to find a conference where they could learn as much in such a short amount of time," SDE program developer Beth Nee says.

Throughout the two days, teachers will have numerous opportunities to get involved through hands-on and highly interactive sessions, make-and-take projects, and "See It in Action" videos that illustrate how to apply what is learned.

"The depth of the presentations will give teachers a whole new perspective on teaching. And the stimulation of the interactive, hands-on learning will recharge their creative batteries. There will be an incredible amount of sharing, networking, and learning going on," Nee says.

The event brings teachers face-to-face with a team of six experts who have "walked the walk" and are skilled at filtering volumes of insight and solutions into specific, easy-to-implement strategies.

The opening keynote by published author and nationally known children's songwriter and musician Jack Hartmann will set the tone for the conference. He'll perform wonderful new songs and popular favorites for building core skills and injecting excitement into the curriculum.

According to Nee, "Teachers struggling with the day-to-day challenges of the job can easily forget why they got into this profession. This uplifting conference is a chance for teachers to recharge, rediscover their inspiration, and take time to think about why they became teachers."
