"Living with a terminal or chronic illness can rapidly destroy a patient's quality of life. Gold Crest Care Center is committed to providing every single patient with the ability to live out their days comfortably. For those with a terminal diagnosis, our hospice care provides dignified treatments designed to improve the last days. For those with chronic illnesses, our palliative care offers relief and comfort from a life of pain and suffering. Visit our site or call us today to learn more," says Michael Salamon, Gold Crest Care Center's director.

Generally, hospice care is provided for Bronx nursing home patients with life expectancies of six months or less. In the majority of cases, the goal of hospice care is not to extend the patient's life expectancy, but to improve the quality of life through pain and symptom relief techniques. A patient's hospice team works together to develop a care plan that is tailored to each client's individual need for pain management, symptom control and medical supply access. The team will focus on all aspects of a patient's life and well being by employing a holistic approach that is designed to treat physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Palliative care differs from hospice care in the timing of delivery. While most hospice care service plans include palliative care techniques, this service can be provided to any patient suffering from a chronic illness regardless of whether the illness is terminal in nature or not. Additionally, palliative care services can be combined with other treatments that are designed to extend life expectancy and improve the patient's condition. Therefore, palliative care is used in reference to any care that alleviates a patient's symptoms.
