First Eight .NYC Sites in Top One Million Sites

BROOKLYN, N.Y., Oct. 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The launch of domain names ending with .NYC about a month ago (www.yoursite.nyc, www.example.nyc) has been a huge success.  Right now around 47,000 .NYC domains have been claimed and will become internet websites from and for New York City.

Sites are following suit. Eight sites are already in Alexa´s top One million count. Alexa provides traffic data, global rankings and other information on 30 million websites and is one of the main sources of information for internet usage.

According to Alexa´s ranking, the following are the eight sites already up in the top one million:

Digital.nyc
Ownit.nyc
Gaycitynews.nyc
Pickleday.nyc
Shubert.nyc
Casey.nyc
C4q.nyc
Dancenyc.nyc

Local companies, organizations or individuals run these sites. We will see more and more sites make this list in the near future as .NYC continues to evolve and as local businesses and people get online with a .NYC domain.

.NYC is not the only city getting its own TLD. Notable cities include London and Berlin, who also have their own domain extension (.LONDON, .BERLIN).  .BERLIN has been active for several months and .LONDON launched recently, about a month ago.  .LONDON has seven sites in the top one million count while .BERLIN has 14.

Taking into account the total number of domains that have been registered, .NYC is currently trailing .LONDON by approximately 1000 domains but catching up quickly.  It is expected that in less than a week, .NYC will surpass .LONDON to become the second most successful city new domain extension, only behind .BERLIN.

.BERLIN has almost 160,000 domain registrations but about 90,000 were given away for free. An approximation to the number of .BERLIN sites that have been bought is around 70,000.  That is .NYC´s next challenge.

New Yorkers are invited to claim their domains and get a bite of New York digital real estate.  Registration can be made through www.hellodotnyc.com or through any of the authorized registration sites in under a minute.
