Political Outsider, Small Business Owner and Professional Engineer Mark Fisher Brings Considerable Private Sector Experience to Massachusetts Gubernatorial Race

Conservative candidate Fisher to hold campaign kickoff December 16 in Auburn

AUBURN, Mass., Dec. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Mark Fisher, a business owner from Shrewsbury, will announce his campaign for governor next week as a political outsider with no experience in politics. He believes that his private sector experiences are exactly what the voters in the Commonwealth are looking for.

On Monday (Dec. 16), Fisher will formally announce his candidacy and lay out his platform with an event in Auburn at Chuck's Steakhouse from 6:30-8pm.

Fisher is basing his campaign on several key issues, including lower taxes, elimination of all tolls on state roads and highways, job creation, gun rights, healthcare, and illegal immigration. He describes himself as a full-platform Republican and will run on a traditional conservative agenda.

He argues that big government policies are failing the Commonwealth, and cites the USDA report which shows a 100% increase in the number of participants in the state SNAP program under the Patrick administration from just fewer than 450,000 in 2006 when he took office to 900,000 people today.  Fisher asks, "What are we doing to those we seek to help?"

"This is a real battle for the future of Massachusetts," said Fisher. "I'm a longtime conservative, and I won't shrink from being associated with the Republican Party."

Fisher, owner of Merchant's Fabrication in Auburn, a metal manufacturing facility, provides health insurance for all of his employees. He vehemently rejects government involvement in the healthcare industry, saying, "there is nothing the Government can do that the private sector can't do better." Fisher joined thousands of other small business owners, and refused to comply with the law requiring them to notify their employees of the details of Obamacare. He tore up the sample notification provided by the Obama administration, saying as he did so, "I'm not going to do Obama's dirty work for him!"

Mark is a licensed professional engineer (P.E.), and has been a resident of Massachusetts for 54 of his 55 years. He lives in Shrewsbury with his wife Margaret.  Since their marriage 21 years ago they have been life-long residents of Shrewsbury along with their two children. He attended Westfield High School and graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) with a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master Degree in Manufacturing Engineering and an MBA.
