PressThePresident.com Announces Winners in First Ever, Politically-Inspired Costume Contest

Two winners showcased animal rights costumes as their political issue and won cash prizes for their creativity. Congratulations!

WASHINGTON, Nov. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — PressThePresident.com hosted its first ever politically-inspired costume contest. Users were encouraged to submit photos of themselves dressed as their favorite politician or political issue. Every year, hundreds of thousands of Americans celebrate the holidays with costumes and parties and now two individuals have been rewarded for their efforts, both of whom decided to dress to raise awareness about animal rights.

The winner of the contest, Sarah Mueller, writes, "I am a supporter of animal rights, and this Halloween I decided to 'knock-out' animal cruelty as 'Tyson' Chicken — a cross between boxer Mike Tyson and a reference to the Tyson chicken brand." The runner-up, Pierre Hilton, also took a stance against animal rights stating, "The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look on the murder of men."

Animal rights are a familiar issue for PressThePresident.com. U.S. Congressman Jim Moran was featured on PTP.com recently because of his stand on protecting the rights of animals.

Here are a few facts that animal rights activists have compiled, how Americans can be aware of the issues and what can be done to stop the abuse:

  1. Due to genetic manipulation, 90% of broiler chickens (chicken bred specifically for meat production) have trouble walking. Encourage your school cafeteria to go meatless on Mondays to protest. DoSomething.org encourages you to sign up for Meatless Mondays.
  2. According to the American Humane Association, one study found that 70% of animal abusers also had other criminal records. Domestic violence victims, whose animals were abused by partners and spouses, see animal cruelty as one more violent episode in a long history of indiscriminate violence aimed at them and their vulnerability. The Society encourages witnesses to animal abuse to report violations to authorities.
  3. As reported by the Humane Society, many states specifically exclude livestock or any "common" agricultural practices from their cruelty laws. Even when protective laws exist, it can sometimes be difficult to convince law enforcement to make an arrest and/or to seize livestock who are being neglected or abused. Write to your political representative today if you feel this should be changed!
  4. Write an article for PressThePresident.com about this or any other issues that are important to you!
