Professional Coaches Now Offering More Services in Addition to Coaching

LEXINGTON, Ky., March 1, 2012 — Newly published research on professional coaching shows coaches are offering more services and skills to their fields of practice. Information released from the 2012 ICF Global Coaching Study shows almost all coaches (94 percent) offer one or more additional services in addition to coaching in their professional practice.

Study results show that on average coaches offer almost three (2.7) additional services along with coaching, most commonly consulting (62%) and training (60%). As the coaching profession has expanded and businesses are exposed to the benefits of coaching, many coaches are expanding the offering of services they provide.

The diversifying of services offered by professional coaches also appears to be an industry trend influenced by the global economic downturn. The 2012 ICF Global Coaching Study asked coaches to identify what changes, if any, they had made to their coaching business in the past 12 months; "offering services in addition to coaching" was the second highest-chosen selection, garnering 41 percent of total respondents.

Business professionals are also turning to coaching as a way to experience the benefits coaching can provide personally and organizationally. Many executives are now adding coaching skills to the work done in their respective fields.

"Coaching is an extremely effective tool for improving productivity and resilience that many of today's leaders and entrepreneurs are adding to their professional services," explained ICF Global President Janet M. Harvey. "As more businesses and communities are experiencing the positive impact and benefits of coaching, many consultants, trainers, and business leaders are becoming professional coaches."

Over 12,000 coaches representing 117 countries throughout Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America participated in the study commissioned by ICF and conducted independently by the International Survey Unit of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 2011.
