Reform Health Care or Die Trying: Only Ordinary Emergency Doctor Can Stop Greedy Politician Who Threatens American Health Care

ALLENTOWN, Pa., Nov. 17, 2009 — In his debut novel, "The Gene Card" (published by iUniverse), Frank Penater reveals the dying world of the near future, one where the cost of practical medical care has become too high to provide for anyone other than the rich and politically recognized. Now, a simple, altruistic physician must thwart a power-hungry, megalomaniacal president before everyone suffers the deadly consequences.

Certain that the president-elect, Joseph Thorn, will likely continue the previous administration's disastrous health care program, causing even more inconsolable suffering and death as a result, Dr. Peter Kelly, former secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, witnesses firsthand the pain of numerous patients and grief of countless families as an ordinary emergency doctor now. Aware of the corrupt administration and their plans to ignore the growing health care problem, Dr. Kelly feels responsible to affect change for the better, especially because he himself was the one who inadvertently created the dark monster that currently threatens to devour the American health care standard in the hopes of lining his own pockets.

All Dr. Kelly wanted was to reduce the ongoing suffering felt around the world and redistribute necessary funding to those medical organizations that could do the most good, but now his dream for a better future had been twisted into an unhealthy nightmare – literally. Soon, he's left with no other choice than to commit the unthinkable. Now, he must violate his sacred oath to protect and preserve life in order to pave the way for a better, healthier tomorrow – that is, if he can summon the courage to pull the trigger.

Illuminating the depths of political corruption at the expense of the American people and exploring the penalties of a neglected health care system, "The Gene Card" takes readers on a journey that not only entertains with its thrilling government drama but also challenges the ethical standards we hold so dear. Find out whether U.S. President Thorn will satisfy his gluttonous desires or Dr. Kelly will make the ultimate sacrifice for his people in the startling conclusion of "The Gene Card," a book that promises as much action as it does heart.
