She explores the implications of evil within the context of religion, as well as the potential implications of a global ban on religion. Her novel was born from her struggles with the recent decade's religious implications and how those who lean towards extremism, such as those involved in the Charlie Hebdo attacks or the Al-Shabaab militant's in Kenya, affect global culture. She dares to ask the question: what would happen if there were an outright ban on religion? This may happen in our lifetime, how would society adjust to it? We would certainly have a very different world. Why was religion formed? Was it formed to control humanity?
"It's an interesting question to consider," says Brown. "Which is more violent: religion or government?"
Forgotten Word is the story of private investigator Zena McGrath, and what happens when she's summoned to the Vatican to help investigate a string of clergy deaths. As Zena delves further into the killings and falls deeper down the rabbit hole, she comes to feel the presence of something ancient and evil; something that has long existed in the shadows and is content no longer to remain there.
