EAST HAMPTON, N.Y., Aug. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Based on three consecutive years of successfully supporting the arts while simultaneously raising funds to neutralize domestic violence, The Retreat domestic violence services agency today announced a deadline extension to Saturday, September 1st for submission of works by artists worldwide to The Retreat's 4th Annual Juried Art Show.
Submissions of art come from around the globe, including entries from South Africa, Brazil, and the United States.
The competition — which culminates in the top 25 entries being displayed in a group art show at the Richard J. Demato Fine Arts Gallery in Sag Harbor, NY between October 27th and November 5th, 2012 — benefits The Retreat's domestic violence services and is open to all artists with work in photography, painting, 2D, 3D, and sculpture (no video art). To be eligible, work must be 24" by 36" or smaller.
The best in show will win a solo exhibition at the gallery to be held within a year of the winning.
Jurors for this year's competition will be Kathryn Markel, owner of the art gallery Kathryn Markel Fine Arts with locations in Bridgehampton and New York City and Christina Mossaides Strassfield, Museum Director / Chief Curator of Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton, NY.
The Executive Director of The Retreat, Jeffrey Friedman shares excitement about the enthusiasm of the compassionate and competing artists, "The message is clear. Artists from diverse backgrounds and cultures are showing that they care, and are coming together to try to end domestic violence. It's big."
The entry fee is $50 per entry, with a limit of 3 entries per person, and all work must be submitted exclusively in JPEG form (actual physical works of art will not be judged). All actual artwork depicted in the JPEGs submitted must be available for purchase with a 50/50 split between the artist and The Retreat.
