'Rock & Roll, Sex and Fools' Deliberately Distorts Great Moments in Rock History for Laughs

Paul Bibbins' debut novel follows Joe Kool Jack as he inserts himself into historic rock & roll moments in Forrest Gump fashion

DALLAS, Feb. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The protagonist of Paul Bibbins' debut novel, Rock & Roll, Sex, and Fools …The Slow Fade to Black of Mr. Joe Kool Jack, is a spin master who weaves humorous and raunchy alternate realities from documented rock & roll history. In his mind, and his mind alone, he is the genius and driving force behind many of history's greatest rock and pop culture moments.

"The idea for Rock & Roll, Sex, and Fools started around the end of 2006 when I heard a guy on a radio call-in show making inaccurate statements about how rock & roll began," says Paul. "A few years earlier I took a college rock & roll history class; so I'm aware of the true facts of rock & roll's birth. As I listened to that misinformed radio caller I visualized the main character for my book: a guy who tells whoppers about being responsible for many of the defining moments of rock & roll; despite what the history books tell us."

Joseph Kendall Jack, better known as Joe Kool Jack, is the novel's fictional main character. He wants the masses to know about his place in rock history; but the problem is, he has no actual role in any of that history. So he reinvents grand moments in rock history, in very twisted fashion, and inserts himself into those grand moments in a manner similar to the main character in the movie Forrest Gump.

The writing style employed in Rock & Roll, Sex, and Fools is such that the reader never knows what's coming next. Big laughs, though, are always lurking around the corner. The story is peppered with impossible rock star encounters, hilarious slice-of-life vignettes, human intrigue, and sex and drugs.

"Sex and drugs are integral parts of the story as a whole," explains Paul. "The combination of sex and drugs form a springboard to many of Joe Kool Jack's wild adventures."
