SB Architects Named to Design First 4-Star Winery Resort in the Temecula Valley

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Temecula Valley – unofficially known as "Southern California's Wine Country" – is about to get its first 4-star winery resort. San Francisco-based SB Architects has been selected to craft an authentic, experiential resort that pays homage to the region's landscape and history.

The SB Architects-designed resort, set in the Temecula foothills.

Developed by Standard Portfolio Group and Wave Hospitality, the yet-to-be-named resort is set on 135 acres in the Temecula foothills and heralds a trend toward the development of experiential, wine and food-centered destinations. The new resort will accommodate 200 to 250 guests and will be set directly within the vineyards, surrounded by numerous event spaces, a farm-to-table restaurant, a stand-alone brewery and a winery capable of producing 50,000 cases per year. The project team expects to announce the name of the resort in early 2016.

"Our goal is to create an immersive destination that places the guest at the center of the wine-making experience," states Scott Lee, President and Principal of SB Architects. "Our vision for the design is a contemporary response to a traditional landscape, with a sense of rugged sophistication that feels completely authentic in this valley."

Rooted in landscape, the master plan for the resort preserves over 75% of the site for agriculture.  By preserving the character and use of the rural landscape, the resort will provide an authentic experience of the Southern California Wine Country, merging Northern and Southern California agrarian roots to create a distinctive new identity for the Temecula Valley wine region. Calabasas-based ValleyCrest Design Group has been selected to provide the landscape design.

This will be the first winery resort developed under the newly-enacted Riverside County Wine Country Community Plan, created to support the development of the Temecula Valley Southern California Wine Country, promoting the area's rural lifestyle and character, as well as its equestrian focus. As Southern California's closest wine country, the Temecula Valley is home to 42 wineries and 1,500 acres of vineyards – numbers that could increase significantly in the next few decades as the Temecula Valley Southern California Wine Country comes into its own.
