R. Scott Oswald Elected President of the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association

WASHINGTON, Feb. 14, 2011 — R. Scott Oswald, Managing Principal of The Employment Law Group® law firm, was elected today to serve as the 2011-2012 President of the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association (MWELA).

MWELA is the 300-lawyer Washington, D.C. metropolitan area affiliate of the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA). As advocates for employee rights and civil rights, MWELA lawyers work to protect the rights and privileges of employees in both the private and public sectors in the Washington metropolitan area workforce. MWELA provides assistance, support, and resources to members throughout the metropolitan area to attain the highest ideals of practice and encourage the sharing of expertise and skills to best serve employees.

R. Scott Oswald is a seasoned trial lawyer whose cases help define the boundaries of protections for employees. His successful litigation of whistleblower retaliation, qui tam, wrongful discharge, discrimination, FMLA, USERRA, and FLSA and unpaid wage actions have been featured in several publications including The National Law Journal, BNA's Daily Labor Report, and Employment Law360. He has recovered over $80 million in judgments and settlements for his clients, including a $57 million False Claims Act settlement, a $1,000,000 sexual harassment jury verdict, and a $579,338 Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) verdict. Notably, Mr. Oswald was Sheila Kalkunte's lead trial counsel in her groundbreaking Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) whistleblower retaliation claim, which remains one of the few SOX whistleblower cases where the SOX whistleblower prevailed at the trial level.
