SDE Announces Lineup of National Conferences for Summer 2015

PETERBOROUGH, N.H., Feb. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Improving classroom instruction, elevating critical thinking, and pushing for greater student achievement are only a few of the goals Staff Development for Educators™ (SDE) hopes to help educators attain when they  attend SDE's 2015 national professional development conferences in Orlando, FL from June 17-19, and in Las Vegas from July 6–10.

The conferences are designed to address head-on the challenges educators face in today's classroom, and they offer content to challenge educators to think critically and creatively in an interactive and engaging setting. These rigorous, multi-day, multi-track events bring the nation's leading education experts together and include nearly 600 sessions.

"Our goal is not only to provide educators with access to the leading experts in their field, but also to provide an opportunity for the kind of peer-to-peer interaction and collaboration that can happen only during in-person events such as these."

"Teachers have too important a job and too little time to spend on professional development that doesn't attend to both instructional soundness and practical applicability," said SDE President, Terra Tarango. "SDE's national events are committed to striking that balance by offering the world's leading experts and most proven content in the form of practical strategies that can often be implemented immediately."

This year, SDE features a new event—I Teach 2nd!, in Las Vegas, designed for second-grade teachers and headlined by popular speaker and author Janiel Wagstaff.

"Elementary grade teachers know that what works for second graders doesn't always work for kindergarteners or first graders," explains Tarango. "As a way of recognizing this, SDE offers separate conferences for each of the three grades — ensuring that all the content offered is vetted for their particular grade level."

Reading, Writing, Math, and More! moves this year to Orlando, FL The perennially-popular I Teach K!, I Teach 1st!, SDE's National Conference on Singapore Math Strategies, and SDE's National Conference on Differentiated Instruction are all returning to Las Vegas, with new and sought-after presentations and innovative, immediately-applicable techniques for making the classroom extraordinary.

Reading, Writing, Math & More! is designed for K-5 educators, and delivers hundreds of practical, proven strategies to meet the standards and elevate the critical thinking abilities of students. Infused with a balance of technology, rigor, and excitement, the conference focuses on providing new skills, confidence, and energy for its educators.

I Teach K!  is packed with robust techniques to help strengthen the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development of kindergarteners. Filled with motivating presenters and high-energy sessions, the conference features dynamic hands-on and make & take sessions to inspire new ways to expose students to learning.

I Teach 1st! provides first grade teachers with the tools they need to foster student independence, recognize and identify gaps in learning, and build upon the components of literacy and numeracy students attained in kindergarten. The conference addresses areas that are important right now, such as text complexity, identifying struggling learners and assigning best-fit intervention strategies, behavior, close reading, and more.

For a small additional charge, I Teach K! and I Teach 1st! participants also have an exclusive opportunity to join DI Encore, an optional fifth day of professional development to gain targeted differentiated instruction tactics for kindergarten and first grade.

The four-day National Conference on Differentiated Instruction has been updated and revamped this year to include a focus on grade-specific and content-specific strategies, so that it truly spotlights the role of DI in education today. With the increased diversity of student populations, literacy exposure, and basic psycho-social needs, developing a strong DI mindset allows educators to find different and unique ways to help students across content, demonstrate knowledge, and have greater success.

"With the ever-changing challenges of meeting all learner's needs while increasing the rigor and raising the bar, these grade-targeted, research-based, proven strategies will help you have one of your best years as an educator ever," enthuses SDE Program Planner Beth Stevenson.

Rich with "how-to" implementation and grade-specific strategies, the National Conference on Singapore Math Strategies provides innovative and exciting ways to teach math,  headlined by world-famous Singapore Math expert Yeap Ban Har. This four-day event features a team of presenters who will share best practices for implementing Singapore Math, supplementing an existing curriculum, or simply looking to enhance math instruction.

In addition, SDE will offer Singapore Math and DI attendee's two pre-conference events: The  Administrator Summit for administrators and Power Up! for K-6 teachers to demonstrate how to embrace technology as a daily instructional tool.

Because of the large breadth and depth of content offered at these national conferences, Tarango is confident that educators will find just the professional development—on just the topics they need—right at their fingertips.

"Educators who attend SDE's national events annually see them as booster shots of encouragement, affirmation, and inspiration," explains Tarango. "It's where they gather the information, strategies, and tools that propel them into the school year."
