The Secrets of Solar Rejuvenation: A New Way to Look at the Sun

Dr. Mitchell Gibson's new book explores the scientific and spiritual effects of sunlight on the human body.

HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Sunlight has long been a source of rejuvenation and health for billions of people all over the world.  Recently, modern scientists have begun to take a new look at the power of the sun to address a number of ailments that have distressed mankind. Sunlight therapy dates back to the time of the ancient Greeks when it was called heliosis.  Before antibiotic drugs were discovered in the 1930, the healing power of sunlight was favored by the medical community.

Sunlight therapy, called heliotherapy, was indeed considered to be the most successful treatment for infectious diseases from the late 19th to the mid-20th century. Studies revealed that exposing patients to controlled amounts of sunlight dramatically lowered elevated blood pressure (up to 40 mm Hg drop), decreased cholesterol in the bloodstream, lowered abnormally high blood sugar in diabetics, and increased the number of white blood cells, which people need to help resist disease.

Dr. Mitchell Gibson, medical doctor and expert on solar rejuvenation has studied the effects of sunlight on the human body for more than 25 years. He has recently written a book entitled The Secrets of Solar Rejuvenation.  He has extensively researched both the scientific and the spiritual applications of sunlight and its effects on the human body.  Dr. Gibson's specialty is psychiatry and neurology and he was struck by the massive amount of data that has recently emerged regarding the beneficial effects of sunlight on the human nervous system.

Dr. Gibson states that, "Research has shown that people who are deprived of light for long periods of time (and so do not have their biological clocks reset) experience dramatic changes in their sleep, temperature and hormone cycles."

In his new book, Dr. Gibson proposes that sunlight can offer a number of health benefits that the medical community is only now beginning to take a look at.  He cites a study in the British Medical Journal which showed that people in the UK are more likely to die of heart disease in winter than in summer, which is believed to be because of low levels of vitamin D. Where you live in the UK also matters. Blackpool has 27 per cent more hours of sunshine a year than Burnley – and 9 per cent fewer deaths from coronary heart disease.

Sunlight exposure increases vitamin D levels, which may help to prevent the onset of diabetes. "A study in Finland found children given a vitamin D supplement for several years had an 80 per cent reduced risk of developing Type I diabetes as young adults," says Dr. Gibson.

A deficiency in vitamin D is also thought to contribute to Type II diabetes, according to a recent study by Dr. Barbara Boucher at St Bartholomew's and the Royal London Hospitals.

"Sunlight must be respected," states Dr. Gibson.  "The risk of melanoma is real, but the benefits of a moderate amount of sunlight (10-15 minutes per day), may bring real long term health benefits."

Dr. Gibson also believes that sunlight can have positive benefits on the expansion of consciousness and mental health.

Dr. Gibson's YouTube channel has received over 4 million video views since its inception.  His blog, The Enlightened Perspective, has more than 340,000 readers worldwide.
