NEW YORK, Sept. 3, 2009 — Serendipity 3, the home of decadent desserts such as the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, has been captivating millions of patrons since 1954. It's an enchanting place where artists get their inspiration and celebrities from all eras fulfill their cravings. In addition, the restaurant has been the setting of two major Hollywood productions, One Fine Day with George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer, and Serendipity with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale.
Original owner and founder Stephen Bruce arrived in New York City as a teenager in search of fame and fortune. He met his future business partners, Calvin Holt and Patch Caradine, in dance class and the rest is Serendipitous history. The three princes of Serendip opened the first theme restaurant where comfort food was the fare and everything was for sale, including the Tiffany Lamps and marble tables they found by chance and sagacity. The restaurant and general store became a factory for Stephen's fashion designs, especially his Woodstock-inspired denim line, pieces of which are part of five major museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute. After over five decades in business, Mr. Bruce is still the central creative life force behind the restaurant and general store, and continues to reinvent an outrageous whimsical world full of outrageous food, decadent desserts, and outlandish merchandise, located within a Tiffany-jeweled fantasy setting.
On Serendipity's 55th anniversary, September 15, 2009, Stephen Bruce will serve the 10 millionth Frrrozen Hot Chocolate! The world-famous slushy concoction, Frrrozen Hot Chocolate, has been the signature drink at Serendipity for decades with a huge devoted following.
