Serial Entrepreneur Launches WaterBean: Reusable, Portable, Water-Purifying Filter on Indiegogo

Ergonomically Designed Filter Leverages Coconut Carbon To Fight The Battle Against "Water Bottle Fatigue"

LOS ANGELES, July 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Today, entrepreneur Graeme Glen announces the launch of WaterBean on Indiegogo. WaterBean is a portable, reusable filter that transforms any water bottle (or anything used for drinking) into a water purification system. WaterBean leverages the ancient Japanese method of shaking and swirling coconut carbon to add vital minerals to tap water and remove unwanted chemicals.

In the U.S., more than 38 billion plastic bottles end up in landfills every year. In addition, 1,500 plastic water bottles are consumed every second; 70% of these bottles will never be recycled. WaterBean was created to combat a concept called "water bottle fatigue," eliminating the need to purchase expensive water every place you travel. The unique and portable design of WaterBean makes it easy to have clean water everywhere you go and help protect the environment.

"WaterBean serves as a reminder for consumers to avoid what we call water bottle fatigue," said Graeme Glen, inventor and founder of WaterBean. "We spend about four billion dollars on bottled water, wasting approximately 35 billion plastic bottles every year. With just one WaterBean, consumers save money and more than 280 12-ounce water bottles from polluting the environment and ending up in landfills."

WaterBean fits inside any 500 mL / 12 oz or larger plastic bottle or wide-mouthed sports bottle. WaterBean's spring design prevents it from popping out of the bottle while drinking. Once inside the bottle, users shake and swirl the water to activate the coconut carbon, filtering the water and making it cleaner for consumption. The coconut carbon filters are easily changeable (and compostable) after three months of use.

WaterBean is now available through Indiegogo, starting at $13 for a WaterBean and filter. Other packages include multiple colored WaterBeans, filter refills and retail and distributor options.
