Swisslog Healthcare Solutions Celebrates 100-Year Anniversary

Denver-based healthcare automation provider celebrates ten decades of technology innovation from its humble beginnings in 1915 to becoming the leading supplier of pneumatic tube systems in hospitals – and all of its milestones along the way.

DENVER, Aug. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Swisslog, a leading supplier of automation and software solutions for material transport and medication management, announced today that 2015 marks the company's 100th year of business. With the theme of "100 Years of Innovation," Swisslog is celebrating this milestone with a full year of customer and employee events that honor the company's rich history of achievements and underscore its commitment to changing the way healthcare works through automation.

Celebrating 100 Years of Innovation

Addressing employees at a recent company meeting, Swisslog North America President Stephan Sonderegger stated, "We are honored to be celebrating our 100th year as a company with a history of technology development that established our reputation for performance and reliability. I believe our future is even more exciting. With renewed focus on serving our customers, we are building on our strong foundation and creating a vision for integrated healthcare automation that drives a better experience for patients and caregivers alike."

To commemorate the anniversary, Swisslog employees are assembling materials for a time capsule – to be sealed at its company picnic on August 15 – that recognizes the significant events of our past and give future generations a sense of the culture, people and promise that shaped the company through its first century. Swisslog is celebrating at key events over the course of the year with "birthday" cookies, cupcakes, banners and activities, inviting our current and future customers to join us in recognizing where we have been and where we are going.

Swisslog began in 1915 as Grover Brothers and Wood in Detroit, Michigan – servicing pneumatic tube systems. Over the years, the company expanded to include tube system manufacturing, installation and service in consumer and manufacturing settings for moving cash, small parts and documents. Company ownership and corporate names shifted many times over the ensuing decades, however, the focus on material transport remained. With the first hospital installation of a pneumatic tube system in the early 1950s, Swisslog added healthcare as an industry – eventually focusing on hospital automation in the 1980s. Following its acquisition by Swisslog AG, the company added pharmacy automation to its portfolio.

Today, Swisslog Healthcare Solutions has facility-wide and pharmacy automation systems installed in more than 3,000 hospitals worldwide and focuses on improving workflows through efficient material transport and medication management. Denver-based Swisslog Healthcare Solutions offers total system design, manufacturing, installation and customer support – providing integrated solutions for lean workflow and operations that enhances information access, patient safety and cost efficiency.
