Synology Updates Its Award-Winning Five-Bay Flagship DiskStation, Launches the DS1512+

BELLEVUE, Wash., Feb. 29, 2012 — Synology America Corp. today proudly announced the launch of the successor to its award-winning DS1511+, the DS1512+. The new five-bay brings improved performance and increased reliability. When paired with two DX510 expansion modules, the DS1512+ can easily scale to up to 15 drives' worth of capacity (up to 60TB of storage).

The DS1512+ is Synology's first five-bay to support USB 3.0. With significantly improved throughput, USB 3.0 will help users to improve their transfer speeds, whether doing a backup or restore, or simply migrating data to or from the server.

Compatible with VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix Xen, the DS1512+ makes an economical addition to virtual networks. With a price point under $800, and boasting read and write speeds of up to 192MB/s and 194MB/s respectively when the NICs are bonded, it offers great performance for the price.

"With aggressive pricing like this, customers can get tremendous performance  for their IT dollar," said Joshua Wise, Product Manager at Synology America Corp. "When you factor in the broad software toolset included with DiskStation Manger, IT departments stand to save both time and money."

The DS1512+ is designed to help users minimize downtime. User-replaceable exhaust fans help users quickly replace worn-out fans. The redundant fans are tuned to automatically adjust speed if a fan should fail. Passive cooling on the CPU eliminates a single point of failure. Redundant NICs allow support for network failover, split networks, and link aggregation.

Synology's renowned DiskStation Manager operating system is designed to minimize IT time expenditure.

  • Time Backup package allows for point in time backups
  • ADS support for domains up to 100,000 users and groups
  • ACL support for granular, NTFS-style, file-level permissions
  • LDAP support as client or server
  • Comprehensive iSCSI support
