Teaching Our Children the Gift of Giving: Crosland Hill Publishing Presents The Night Before Christmas… The Gift

SAN ANTONIO, Nov. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Crosland HILL announces the release of The Night Before Christmas… The Gift. With a desire to teach her family about the greatest gift and the grace of Christmas giving, author and teacher Linda Crosland naturally turned to her ability and love for story telling. Though a portion of the title is borrowed from Clement Moore's beloved Christmas classic, this story leads the reader on quite another journey. A world famous couple, a villainous king, mysterious men of wealth from the east, angels and God himself all take their place on the stage of history to introduce the greatest example of giving known to mankind, the birth of the baby Jesus. "God reached down and touched the world from above; It was through Jesus He left His fingerprints of love." p. 23

How do we teach our children to give with grace? We first teach them about the love that was so generously poured out upon us. Giving with grace is the greatest gift. It is something given freely that cannot be earned and has no hidden motive. It is a gift that cannot be bought or bargained for. As the story in "Night" unfolds through each page of original art, set with verses in poetic rhyme, children and adults alike are drawn into the drama. The simplicity of the scene belies the sheer magnificence and worth of the gift whose value lies beyond calculating. It is Christmas, and the greatest gift, given with grace, is the perfect example and opportunity for teaching our children- and perhaps, just perhaps, for us as moms, dads and grandparents to be reminded as well of the blessings of giving.

Learning the gift of giving fosters a lifestyle filled with blessing. It is easy to think of giving during the holiday season, but real people have real needs for the rest of the year when the spirit of giving may not be so evident. And what about sacrifice? Shouldn't the experience in giving reflect that as well? Giving that costs us nothing is quickly forgotten. Even small sacrifices made as our children learn to give will serve to reinforce and solidify giving as a lifestyle in a way other factors do not.

Teach giving in secret and tell your children why. Jesus, who became a great teacher, spoke of those who gave with the motivation of gaining recognition. He taught giving in secret so that even our left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. Giving with an expectation of receiving something in return isn't a gift. As we share the gift of giving this Christmas with those we love, the seeds of blessing will surely multiply in return.
