ThyroScore launched as National Thyroid Health Initiative

Startup searches for the 15M Americans with undiagnosed thyroid problems

WILLIAMSBURG, Va., Aug. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — ThyroMetrix USA, Inc., the clinical thyroid testing company, announces ThyroScore, a startup and community-powered initiative to address the national thyroid health issue. According to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, approximately 15 million Americans suffer from thyroid-related health problems but are undiagnosed and unaware.

The thyroid gland controls the body's energy, metabolism, use of oxygen, and affects every cell in the body. Common symptoms of thyroid problems include fatigue, weight loss or gain, loss of memory, difficulty concentrating, hair loss, and depression. These become a way of life for millions of people, and in other cases just one symptom is treated in isolation, when the real issue is an unhealthy thyroid.

Affecting almost 1 in 20 Americans directly, the lifestyle, social, and economic costs of undetected thyroid problems are enormous for individuals and employers alike.  Left untreated, thyroid dysfunction may lead to heart disease, diabetes, and thyroid cancer.

To tackle undiagnosed thyroid problems, ThyroScore will invite millions of health-conscious people to measure their thyroid health by testing their TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) level with an easy, at-home blood test. The completed ThyroScore™ test will be sent to a licensed laboratory for analysis. Participants will receive their individual TSH results online, securely and privately, and may choose to share their results with a medical professional for diagnosis and treatment.

"We're launching ThyroScore because we believe that people should know their TSH Level as matter-of-factly as they know their blood pressure. It's an excellent measure of one's health and the obvious first step in identifying thyroid dysfunction," said Sharon Cunningham, president of ThyroMetrix.

ThyroScore has developed a strategic partner base of corporate sponsors, affiliates, advocacy groups, and associations to further motivate, educate and empower Americans to get the facts about their thyroid health. New partners may also apply online at .

ThyroMetrix USA, Inc. was formed in 2006 to provide doctors and other medical professionals with the latest technology in rapid immunoassay testing and electronic readers so as to make in-office TSH testing easy, immediate and profitable.
