NEW YORK, April 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Off2 Colombia is the world's most comprehensive and up to date online travel guide to Colombia. In the true spirit of adventure the founders of Off2 Colombia, Mickael Couturier and Josian Chevallier, have remained dedicated to bringing their readers more off-the-beaten-track guides, even as Colombia becomes an increasingly popular destination.

The new guides focus on Cano Cristales, the seven-colour river; El Cocuy National Park, a mountaineering paradise; and the mystical Cerros de Mavecure (also called the "Crying Rocks"), uprising from the Amazonian jungle. Places that many travellers never even get to hear of.

Off-the-beaten-track guides are designed to help people discover lesser-known places and enjoy experiences completely unique to Colombia. It could be anything from a micro desert in the South of Colombia to a public rooftop swimming pool overlooking Cartagena. Guides come with beautiful photos and videos to help travellers get under the skin of a place before even visiting.

The 3 new travel guides focus on places of sheer natural beauty that people just don't know about. As stated by Josian Chevallier, "Colombia has a lot more to offer than a beach holiday on the Caribbean Coast or a visit to Bogota. Places like the Cerros de Mavecure bring you back in time; you feel like an explorer. This is what travelling is about."

Cano Cristales

Cano Cristales is a biological wonder. During the wet season, the aquatic plants and corals transform the river in a living rainbow. Located in the South East of Colombia, you need to fly to La Macarena where you will take a short boat trip to get to the Cano. Flights are available from Villavicencio (1h30) or Bogota (2h30). This is an easy trip with no particular physical condition needed.

El Cocuy National Park

El Cocuy National Park is an untouched mountaineering paradise combining glaciers, altitude lakes and waterfalls surrounded by 14 snow peaks standing at more than 5000m. Because of its location close to the Equator, it offers endemic flora and stunning contrasts as you move up and down in altitude. El Cocuy is located in the department of Boyaca, it is a 12h bus journey from Bogota. With an average altitude of 4000m, trekking in El Cocuy is demanding – some parts are only accessible to experienced mountaineers.

Los Cerros de Mavecure

Los Cerros de Mavecure are giant monoliths uprising from the Amazonian jungle. When it rains, the water creates rivers and waterfalls, giving the impression that the rocks are crying. During the dry season, rivers nearby make way to white sandy beaches to relax between treks. The Cerros are located in the east of Colombia next to Venezuela. It is a 1h30 minutes flight from Bogota to Puerto Inirida and then a 2 hour boat ride. It's relatively easy trek, although it could be tricky to climb some of the rocks.

Colombia has recently shot into the spotlight as one of the world's hottest travel destinations with international press such as TIME or National Geographic promoting a "new" Colombia. These publications usually focus on established tourism destinations like Cartagena and the Coffee Region, ignoring the rest of Colombia and its untouched natural wonders. With Off2 Colombia's newest off-the-beaten-track guides, they're hoping that these destinations won't remain a secret for too much longer and contribute to promote and preserve these natural wonders.
