BANGKOK, June 13, 2012 — Over the past 5 weeks, during April and May 2012, creative tourists from around the world were invited to participate in the "Watch & Win" online contest, part of the creative tourism campaign, "Discover the Other You," organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). Contestants were offered the chance to win one of three 7-day creative tourism experiences for two in the Land of Smiles, each worth $10,000 including $2,000 cash.
The contest attracted over 10,900 participants from 119 countries. The top 5 represented countries included: 1) Australia, 2) The United Kingdom, 3) The United States of America, 4) India and 5) Singapore.
Creative tourists were invited to watch the campaign video, "Discover the Other You." After feeling inspired, they were asked to choose one of their favorite experiential holidays and complete the participation form. The top activities were classes in: 1) Thai Massage 2) Thai Cooking and 3) Thai boxing respectively.
The 3 lucky winners, who will receive a 7-day, all-inclusive, experiential holiday of their choice for themselves and one friend, round-trip international air tickets plus $2,000 in cash, are:
- Ms. Aleksandra Brkljac from Croatia, winner of the "Thai Massage Learning, Health and Well-being Holiday"
- Mr. Chang Chih-Yung from Taiwan, winner of the "Thai Cooking Classes and Gourmet Vacation"
- Ms. Anne-Marie Coulton from Australia, winner of the "Thai Boxing Lessons and Soft Adventure Holiday"
The contest was a great success, not only in promoting creative tourism experiences in Thailand, but also for creating travelers' participation. These creative tourists will be inspired by an array of learning activities that Thailand has to offer. From craft making to Thai boxing, rice farming to massage instruction and Thai cooking. Through experiential travel, visitors to Thailand can expect life-changing lessons that can reveal undiscovered parts of themselves.
