University of Minnesota Physicians Chooses MedAptus Following Comprehensive Vendor Review

Professional Intelligent Charge Capture Emerges as Preferred Technology for Revenue Cycle Enhancement

BOSTON, May 13, 2009 — MedAptus(R), market leader for charge capture technologies, today announced that University of Minnesota Physicians (UMP), a premier multi-specialty physician organization, has selected MedAptus' Practice Plus Edition for charge capture automation.

Founded in 1997 and based in Minneapolis, UMP is an independent not-for-profit organization with more than 700 physicians who also teach at the University of Minnesota Medical School. UMP undertook a formal search for charge capture technology in early 2007 in an effort to improve coding and billing processes, particularly surrounding inpatient charges. UMP selected MedAptus as vendor of choice for the project after completing a thorough assessment process that included an RFP, on-site demonstrations to stakeholders and customer reference calls.

The flagship offering of MedAptus' Professional Intelligent Charge Capture suite, Practice Plus Edition, is a powerful, yet easy-to-use, solution proven to mitigate potential professional revenue loss, compliance overhead and lack of billing process transparency. To date, the solution has delivered tens of millions of dollars in financial benefit across numerous academic groups similar in size and structure to UMP.

"UMP has a desire to make sure our revenue cycle is as efficient and optimal as possible. We view MedAptus' technology, a tool that allows us to ensure all charges have been captured, coded accurately and sent for billing expeditiously, as key to meeting our objective. Beyond the software, however, we found MedAptus leadership to be highly engaged in product development and very responsive to our needs during the product evaluation process. We believe that these attributes, which we view as critical to a successful project, will carry over to our implementation," said Ann Peterson, vice president of patient and business services at University of Minnesota Physicians.

The implementation of Practice Plus is already underway at UMP, with the goal of having initial users live on MedAptus' web-based offering in Q3 2009. Following a successful phase-one rollout, the technology will be deployed across the UMP enterprise starting in Q4 2009.

"It was a true pleasure to work with UMP throughout the sales process – they approached the search for charge capture systematically and were highly knowledgeable about features, functions and user needs. We are thrilled to extend this relationship and formally welcome such a renowned organization as our newest customer," stated Dennis Mitchell, MedAptus' chief executive officer. "MedAptus has continuously proven itself to be the preferred provider of charge capture technology for affiliated practice plans. From our solid track record of implementation success with larger and complex organizations, to highly robust technology that has application across myriad specialties and nuances, clearly what we deliver resonates in the academic market."
