USPTO Awards Federal Trademark to Social Media App Developer Choozum for the Term “Social Decision Making”

Trademarked term describes the innovative community polling platform and process the Philadelphia-based company publicly introduced this Spring

PHILADELPHIA, April 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Choozum, a Philadelphia based social media app developer, announced today the United States Patent and Trademark Office has awarded it a federal trademark for the term, "Social Decision Making." The company says the federal office that controls patents and trademarks conceded the registration made sense after having reviewed Choozum's community polling service back in 2011.

"We're excited to have worked closely with the USPTO on this important registration," says Leigh Raup, resident Public Relations Lead at Choozum. "We feel Social Decision Making clearly defines our market and is a logical next step in social media utility."

Social decision-making, as it pertains to the USPTO classifications, is defined as: Computing services, namely, creating an on-line community for registered users to create and share public and private surveys, participate in public and private surveys, acquire feedback from participants, provide feedback to participants, and engage in social networking for purposes of obtaining input and feedback from multiple participants. The company says its mobile app offers a fun, socially engaging, and convenient way for people to create and share surveys with friends or the world, instantly.

The theory of social decision-making has been around for a long while, though leveraging such concepts for use in social media paradigms is fairly recent. More than one billion monthly active users are now on Facebook, according to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In addition, Facebook asserts they now have roughly 600 million mobile users, according to the company's fact sheet included with their announcement in late 2012. Choozum's founders say this provides for a tremendous opportunity to help people make better decisions by leveraging the collective brain power of their social network. Choozum is free and available today in the iTunes Store and on their website or http://www.Facebook.com/Choozum). People invited to participate in a Choozum survey do not require membership or the Choozum app in order to respond.
