Varsity Tutors Seeking 75 Out-of-Work Atlanta Teachers to Add to Tutoring Staff

ATLANTA, Dec. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — It is no secret that job opportunities are at a record-low right now, but that is not stopping the Atlanta tutoring company Varsity Tutors from creating openings.

This private tutoring service is gaining a bigger and bigger client base, subsequently finding a pressing need for hundreds of more tutors. The company currently operates in 14 major metropolitan areas across the nation including Atlanta, where the search for approximately 75 new tutors has commenced.

Founder and CEO, Chuck Cohn, says that these tutoring openings could be a terrific part-time position for teachers who have recently been laid off in the recession, adding that it would also be a chance for them to get back to working in the education industry.

"When we heard about many schools laying off teachers, we knew we could offer many of them part-time positions. We realized we had opportunities to match these teachers to students looking for tutoring and test prep," says Cohn. "Thus far, the teachers have become a tremendous addition to our tutor base."

Varsity Tutors launched back in 2007 and has experienced non-stop growth ever since. The company currently staffs over 60 employees and 1,500 tutors nationwide. Tutors specialize in a wide array of school subjects and test prep, including academic courses ranging from elementary to graduate school levels, and entrance exams such as the SAT, GMAT, MCAT, and more. Currently, the greatest amount of demand comes from math tutoring, ISEE prep, and GRE prep.

One of the unique elements of Varsity Tutors' business is the approach it takes with tutor selection. The company carries very rigorous standards for the tutors they contract, looking for more than just good grades and test scores. Applicants must show that they have a real passion for teaching and a bright personality as well. The company has turned away applicants with perfect test scores who were not able to communicate material in a logical manner.

"We have set some of the industry's highest standards for our tutors, ensuring that each one has a great academic background as well as excellent teaching skills. It's one thing to be book smart, and another to also be able to communicate well," Cohn says. "Possessing vast amounts of knowledge is useless if you can't effectively communicate what you know."

Varsity Tutors encourages those from all fields of study and expertise to apply for these tutoring roles. What matters most to the company is to find people who naturally demonstrate both great intelligence and special personalities, in addition to a genuine love for teaching. Tutors are free to specialize in the area of their choosing in which they can show great teaching abilities. Areas of specialization include all levels of math, science, foreign languages, and all other basic school subjects ranging from K-12 to graduate school courses, and test prep for exams such as the SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, and more. Demand is projected to increase the most in the test prep area, mostly for the GRE.

Those interested in becoming an Atlanta Varsity Tutor should complete the company's tutoring job application.
