The Voices Behind the Celebrities – A Look Behind the Scenes of How The Looping Division Creates the Vocal Atmosphere in Such Hits as the Number-One Movie ‘Non-Stop’

New loop group company has been building impressive resume, and begins 2014 with high-profile film and television work

NEW YORK, March 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — When you go to see a movie or watch a TV show at home, you watch and listen to your favorite actors. However, behind the stars a whole other world exists – the vocal atmosphere of the scenes around them.

When a film or TV show is shot, the background actors are not miked. The voices of these characters are added later in Post Production, after the film has finished shooting. This way they can be carefully cast and directed, to help set up the tone of each scene in the film. This process is run by a part of post production called – the loop group.

Over the past year, a new loop group company, THE LOOPING DIVISION, has been making its mark. So far this month they have had three major projects released: Liam Neeson's NON-STOP, which has been topping the box office; FX's premiere of the second season of THE AMERICANS (Starring Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys) and SUNDANCE TV's new series THE RED ROAD (Starring Game of Thrones' Jason Momoa and Martin Henderson).

The Looping Division is run by husband and wife team Jason Harris and Peter Pamela Rose. Their job is to screen each project and piece together the perfect vocal cast to complement the action of the film or show. Looping Division works closely with the production team in order to help bring the Director's vision to life.

Another major part of the loop group process is finding the right actors to cover many different featured specifics that arise in each project. In the FX hit "The Americans," that often means portraying newscasters that have the authoritative yet non-embellished style of early 80's newscasts. For "The Red Road," football and motocross announcers were required for shots of televised sports. In "Non Stop" we hear two off-camera British Fighter Pilots that flank the hijacked plane and are key to the action.

Another specialty of The Looping Division is casting voice matches often needed for last-minute edits before trial screenings. For "Non-Stop," that meant finding dead-on impersonators for Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore and other featured actors. Both Harris and Rose are no strangers to voice matching themselves, having perfected the celebrity voices of: Matthew Broderick, James Gandolfini, Mark Ruffalo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Watts and Michelle Dockery.

In addition to its successful first year, The Looping Division was part of the team that won the 2014 Motion Picture Sound Editors Award for Blue Sky/Fox's "Epic" for Best Sound Editing: Dialogue & ADR in an Animated Film. In addition to this animated feature, The Looping Division has cast loop group for animated hits such as: Ice Age 4: Continental Drift (Starring Ray Romano) and the upcoming blockbuster RIO 2 (Starring Anne Hathaway), due out in April.
