Intelligent Voice "listens" to trader communication, be it telephone, email, IM, SMS etc, and looks for anomalous communications that might indicate wrongdoing.

In a video shot by the WSJ, (http://live.wsj.com/#!343D8A44-6C25-4FEA-BFBB-6EB139EBFDE1) Nigel Cannings, CTO at Intelligent Voice, explains how a number of techniques, including what he calls "Emotional Temperature" can help analyze and perhaps even predict fraudulent behavior.

"We aim to give compliance officers a lot more focus than is available from mere random sampling," says Cannings.  "Sure, there will be false positives, but the insight that we can offer far outweighs the occasional blind alley."

The system is designed to scan and assess large volumes of data in real or near real time, even across thousands of traders.  It can even work out who is calling when no caller ID is present, a key feature of any system that alleges that it can provide "holistic" monitoring across multiple data streams.

Intelligent Voice has unique intellectual property, and is investing heavily in development into massively parallel processing technology (using Nvidia GPU cards) to make its speech to text engines the fastest in the world

"The only real advantage so-called 'phonetic search' has had over speech to text in recent years is its perceived speed.  It lags behind in its ability to assess context, and its failure to interface with existing text based systems. The speed up that GPUs offer will render phonetic search obsolete," says Cannings.
