Grand Opening set for October 12 in the Azuero Peninsula

PANAMA CITY, Aug. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — On October 12, 2013, the Azuero Peninsula will open a new chapter with the official inauguration of the highly acclaimed Cubita Boutique Resort & Spa, a first-of-its-kind project in the Republic of Panama.  The brainchild of Panamanian finance specialist Ivan Eskildsen and wife Maria Amelia Pezzotti, Cubita Boutique Resort & Spa represents a unique marriage of world-class amenities with the colonial charm of the Azuero Peninsula, long considered the cradle of Panamanian culture and folklore.

Since the groundbreaking in 2012, construction of the Cubita Boutique Resort & Spa has proceeded at an unprecedented pace, entailing the dedicated efforts of over 200 workers and 20 engineers to meet the projected delivery dates.  The Grand Opening scheduled for October 12th will be marked by animated festivities including a tour of the facilities and a presentation of the "Cubita Experience", which seeks to preserve and promote the wealth of tradition and history of the Azuero region while providing experiences consonant with the highest standards of service.  The guest list for this landmark event includes numerous Panamanian government and private personalities as well as distinguished international figures.

Set among beautifully landscaped gardens with a thematic backdrop evocative of the region's Spanish colonial heritage, the facilities of the Cubita Boutique Resort & Spa include a 100-room luxury hotel, convention center, restaurant, pool, sauna, gym and state-of-the-art spa.  Two of the most unique features of the hotel are the colonial chapel located in the courtyard – providing the perfect setting for unforgettable destination weddings in Azuero – and the museum, a beacon of culture in Azuero which will offer both visitors and locals the opportunity to explore the variety of influences that have shaped the history, art and folklore of the region.

At the helm of this ambitious hotel complex stands Argentinean Hugo Bemporat, a graduate of the Perito Moreno Tourism Institute of Buenos Aires and recipient of post-graduate certificates in Hotel Management from Cornell University and the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico.  Mr. Bemporat brings to Cubita over 25 years of management experience, including a successful career record in hospitality chains such as Radisson Hotels, Hoteles Barcelo RD, and AMHSA Marina Hotels & Resorts.

All of the hotel facilities and services will also be available to the residents of the 26 luxurious single-family homes and 64 apartments that comprise the residential area of the Cubita Boutique Resort & Spa. The stylish two- and three-bedroom condominiums include the option of a property rental and management program, offering part-time residents an ideal lock-and-go lifestyle that will generate a year-round return on their investment.

The third pillar of the Cubita residential/hotel/commercial triad is the shopping plaza, with twenty commercial spaces that will provide a wide variety of shopping alternatives for the convenience of the residents and hotel guests.

The selection of Chitre – the cultural and commercial hub of the Azuero Peninsula – as the setting for the Cubita Boutique Resort & Spa is the result many months of careful research by Ivan and Maria Amelia Eskildsen, who sought to develop a project of their own "in some area of the country outside of Panama City in order to have a different experience, get away from the capital, and enjoy a more laid-back lifestyle. "In 2008 we did an extensive tour of the entire Azuero Peninsula and without a doubt, Chitre made a very strong impression on us. We realized that the city was experiencing a very interesting commercial expansion, and we immediately fell in love with the warmth of its people, the wealth of traditions, and, above all, the down-home charm of the area."

Taking its name and logo from the area's pre-Columbian inhabitants, the Cubita Boutique Resort & Spa forms part of Grupo Cubita, a 100% Panamanian investment group spanning the fields of tourism, real estate, education, energy and more.   Other developments currently underway include a pilot plan for a Hotel School offering university-level certification to hotel professionals and personnel, with practical components to be hosted in the facilities of the Cubita Hotel. Endorsed by the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, this novel certification program aims at promoting customer service excellence not only among potential Cubita employees, but among the Panamanian workforce in general.
