Yellowfin CEO, Glen Rabie, said that he believes Yellowfin's inclusion in the 2015 report was testament to the vendors continued growth and marketplace penetration.

"Yellowfin has had an exceptional 12 months," said Rabie.  "Over 10,000 organizations, and more than one million end-users across 70 different countries, now use Yellowfin within all major markets and industries.

"Yellowfin has achieved this success because it's been able to facilitate market demand for pervasive, consumer-oriented BI deployments.  Yellowfin strikes a fine balance between the self-service needs of business users and the governance requirements of enterprise IT.

"In 2015, we'll continue to deliver innovative industry firsts and build on our distinguishing Collaborative BI, Location Intelligence, Cloud BI and Embedded BI capabilities."

2015 is the second consecutive year that Yellowfin has appeared in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms report within the 'Niche Players' quadrant.  The research surveyed 2,083 users of BI platforms and evaluated 24 different vendors across 13 critical capabilities and four main use cases.

The 2015 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms report also cited an additional 44 "Vendors to Consider" that did not qualify for inclusion in the Magic Quadrant itself.

The four main use cases included: Centralized BI Provisioning (Supports a workflow from data to IT-delivered-and-managed content), Decentralized Analytics (Supports a workflow from data to self-service analytics), Governed Data Discovery (Supports a workflow from data to self-service analytics to systems-of-record, IT-managed content with governance, reusability, promotability), OEM/Embedded BI (Supports a workflow from data to embedded BI content in a process or application).

The 13 critical capabilities for the 2015 version of the report were split into three categories: Enable, Produce and Consume.  Critical capabilities in the Enable category included: Business User Data Mashup and Modeling, Internal Platform Integration, BI Platform Administration, Metadata Management, Cloud Deployment, Development and Integration.  Critical capabilities in the Produce category included: Free-Form Interactive Exploration, Analytic Dashboards and Content, IT-Developed Reporting and Dashboards, Traditional Styles of Analysis.  Critical capabilities in the Consume category included: Mobile BI, Collaboration and Social Integration, Embedded BI.
